About

Come alive with Science is a range of fascinating school activities and public events that will take place this spring to celebrate science and scientific achievement across the East Midlands.

The events form part of the first region - wide innovation festival - iFestival (9 March - 17 May) - which will encompass an inspiring, inclusive programme of events, celebrating the range of bright and innovative ideas that are happening across the East Midlands.

They also highlight Nottingham's designation as a Science City (one of only six in the UK) and link with National Science and Engineering Week (9-18 March),

The Come alive with Science programme has been commissioned by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and Nottingham Science City, and is managed by Creative Partnerships.

What does the programme aim to do?

  • to make science exciting and broaden its appeal in schools

Young people will work alongside scientists and artists to devise and lead their own 'Science Games' activities, and as a result, enquire, explore, discover and achieve.

  • to raise the profile of science and engineering, and of Nottingham as a Science City

The wider school community of pupils, school staff, governors and parents will be encouraged to see science as creative, innovative and a source for local pride

  • to encourage long term interest in science and technology

Encouraging schools to use the project and resulting partnerships as a springboard for further creative science activities in the future; encouraging pupils to consider science as an educational and career option
